What is NAPPS?

NAPPS is a member association for full-and part-time pet sitters and dog walkers.

Mission: The only National non-profit professional pet sitting association dedicated to setting the industry standard and championing the welfare of animals. 

What makes NAPPS different from other pet sitting organizations?

  • It is the only national nonprofit U.S. trade association for individuals with pet sitting businesses.
  • It is operated for and by its members.
  • Provides many tools and resources to its members at no additional cost.

What are the benefits of belonging to NAPPS?
NAPPS provides pet sitters with many tools and support to grow their business by:

  • Promoting professional integrity through the Pledge of Professional Conduct;
  • Enhancing professional development through its Annual Conference, publications  and resources; and,
  • Offering networking opportunities.
  • Members are listed for free in the NAPPS referral network, which can be accessed by pet owners online or via phone.
  • Members can purchase bonding, liability and health insurance at discounted rates. The cost of membership does not include bonding, liability or health insurance.
  • Offers certification program and continuing education.

This membership plan allows full access to NAPPS Member Benefits including insurance, education, partner discounts, library of resources, and business enhancement tools. This membership type includes a listing in the NAPPS pet sitter directory and is ideal for pet sitters or dog walkers with established businesses as well as those interested in starting a pet sitting business.

$100.00/yr. - MAI (Member Associate Individual): 
This membership plan is ideal for businesses operating alongside the professional pet sitting industry including veterinarians, doggie daycares, dog trainers, groomers, kennel owners/operators, or pet industry authors. Membership includes additional promotional benefits to include the following;

• Access to the “Members Only” section of the NAPPS website
• All NAPPS Communication
• Participation in the NAPPS Annual Conference at the discounted member rate
• Discount on publications and videos
• Certification program for company employees at the member rate
• Quarterly magazine

Note: MAI memberships are not eligible to receive insurance under the NAPPS pet sitter/dog walker insurance coverage, members do not receive a listing in the pet sitter locator, vote, or hold office. Contact NAPPS Headquarters directly if you are interested in this membership plan.

$50.00/yr. - M1 (Member Employee): 
Membership applications should be completed only by employees of current NAPPS company members. Membership includes the following benefits;

• Access to the “Members Only” section of the NAPPS website
• All NAPPS Communication
• Certification program for member employees at the discounted rate of $125.00. The course does not include the Business Management and Development Section as this area is completed by the Company Owner only. 
• Participation in the NAPPS Annual Conference at the discounted member rate

*Members Employees do not receive a listing in the pet sitter locator as this is available to NAPPS company members.*

$500.00/yr. - MAP (Member Associate Professional):
For a corporation, limited liability partnership, or limited partnership that is a pet service business such as dog training, kennel, or grooming business.
Membership includes additional promotional benefits to include the following; 

• All NAPPS Communication
• A 1/4 page advertisement in the Professional Pet Sitter Magazine 
• Participation in the NAPPS Annual Conference at the discounted member rate
• A table top display at the Annual Conference for promotional use (if selling products, an additional fee will be incurred)
• Opportunity to provide content for the NAPPS Magazine as long as it is educational to our members and not self-promoting
• Discount on publications and videos
• Certification program for company employees at the member rate

$500.00/yr. - MAN (Member Associate Non-Profit):
Non–Profit Associations interested in the pet sitting profession that are involved in animal care or animal welfare that is related to the NAPPS mission, but is not active in the business of pet sitting.
Membership includes additional promotional benefits to include the following; 

• All NAPPS Communication
• A 1/4 page advertisement in the Professional Pet Sitter Magazine 
• Participation in the NAPPS Annual Conference at the discounted member rate
• A table top display at the Annual Conference for promotional use only 
• Opportunity to provide content for the NAPPS Magazine as long as it is educational to our members and not self-promoting
• Discount on publications and videos
• Certification program for company employees at the member rate

If I join, how long will it take for my membership to become active?
Your membership will become active immediately, you will receive a confirmation email that will provide you with your login and password for the Members Only area. Once you have access to the Members Only area, you can begin taking advantage of the many benefits of membership.

Once I become a member, how soon will I be listed on the NAPPS referral network?
You will be included in the NAPPS online referral network immediately after registration.

How do I obtain Insurance?
NAPPS offers members a discount group liability package through Business Insurers of the Carolinas, LLC.   
Once a member, contact the Business Insurers of the Carolinas, LLC directly at 800 962- 4611 or http://www.petsitterinsurance.com/ for information regarding policy options and rate information. NAPPS certified pet sitters receive an additional discount.

How is NAPPS managed?
NAPPS is a nonprofit membership organization, governed by a Board of Directors, elected annually by members.
Board members have a legal duty to:

  • use reasonable care and good judgment in decision-making and be loyal to the organization
  • be faithful to the organization and obedient to its mission
  • comply with the governing documents, such as the bylaws and policies
  • Each board member must sign a special pledge of professional conduct.

Who runs NAPPS' daily operations? 
NAPPS' headquarters operation is run by Association Headquarters - an association management company located in Mt. Laurel , New Jersey .  This allows the organization to be expertly administered without having to bear the costs of a full-time operation.
